Goodnight Mister Tom is a children’s novel written by Michelle Magorian. The story took place during World War II, following a journey of a young boy traveling through towns to seek survival amidst this unfortunate event.

The inspiration behind the design of this book is based on the concept of kids’ diaries. The scribbly, doodly marks on the cover depict the main character’s, William, personality. The imperfections of the design give the readers a sense of who they are going to follow along when they pick up the book.
